How to Use This Paper Effectively

Get the most out of your practice session with these tips from experienced teachers

1

Master velocity-time graphs: gradient = acceleration, area under = distance.

2

For wave questions, always write the wave equation: v = fλ. Most marks come from correct substitution.

3

Practise free-body force diagrams — they help with nearly every forces question.

4

Physics papers are calculation-heavy — show all working, write the formula, substitute values, then calculate.

5

Complete under timed conditions, then use the mark scheme to check both your answers and your method.

What’s on This Paper

Paper 2 covers Forces, Waves, Magnetism, and Space (Higher only). Expect calculation-heavy questions on motion, forces, pressure, wave properties, and electromagnetic induction. This paper often includes complex multi-step calculations and graph interpretation.

Question types you’ll encounter:

Multiple-choice questions
Force and motion calculations (F=ma, v²=u²+2as)
Wave speed and frequency calculations
Magnetism and motor effect questions
Extended-response (6-mark) questions
